It’s clear from the charts that the preferred magazine to be read is Q; this could be because it covers the most genres of music so isn’t too specific for those with a range of music tastes. Most readers would expect to see interviews, gig/festival coverage, posters, backstage coverage, gossip/news and music charts in a music magazine. Band/artist articles interviews is what most of my potential target audience would rather read, with Gig/festival coverage coming closely second. Some of them would maximum of £3.50 for a music magazine, but way over half would be willing to pay £1-£2.50. The genre of magazine I am intending to do is indie/alternative music and a majority of people asked are into that kind of music. Rap and R&B are also popular choices. The price and having good articles in a magazine are the main things that will encourage potential readers to buy a magazine again, though a number of people said all; price, good articles, freebees, event updates would encourage them.
So from the questionnaire, i now know that i need to include a variety of things to appeal to my target audience and to keep them coming back, for example; latest gossip/news, gig/festival updates, posters, music charts, freebees, good price, band/artist interviews and a few others. I will have to price it at the maximum of around £2.50 as this is the price that most are willing to pay. As most of the responses showed that they would prefer to read Q or NME over metal hammer, Kerrang or Vibe helps me to know that my magazine may have to be a bit more versatile; not just bands but feature a few solo artists too.
